5 Magics Gaming club began with the idea that people in the gaming, and specifically the role playing hobby lacked a nice, well maintained social space that catered to their needs. After years of running games in my home I felt like the burden of hosting was a barrier to many who would otherwise begin games as dungeon or game masters. Whether it’s just a lack of space, or the desire to not disturb your living mates or just not wanting potential strangers in your domicile 5 Magics mission is to ease these barriers. Here are some basic questions about the club.

• Food and Drink

  • Can I buy beer/wine/alcohol? Absolutely not, we don’t sell any food or drink.

  • Can I bring my own? Absolutely, we’re a private club and as long as you aren’t breaking any laws you are welcome to bring your own beer or other drinks. See food delivery below as well.

  • I just want a Mountain Dew? We have an independently operated drink machine in the lobby with non-alcoholic drinks.

• Memberships and Payment

• Can I enter without a membership?
  No. But the good news is we offer a single day membership which can be purchased, called a Scroll of Entry. With this you can enter as long as you are accompanied by a member. We also offer room rentals which allows you and your party to be members for the day and have an awesome room, books, maps and minis to use in your game!

• Can I at least look around?
  Of course. If you come during our normal operating hours we’re happy to give you a tour of the club.

• Do you take cash/gold/electrum?
  No. We have no cash of any kind in the club and don’t take it in payment. We can accept card at the front desk however.

• Sounds good what do I need to do to join?
  First go ahead to the ‘PLAY’ section and buy a membership, or reserve a room, or grab a scroll of entry. Then when you show up, provide a photo id (driver’s license, passport, school id, or other government issued valid id) that matches the name on your purchase. Lastly you’ll need to sign a waiver which we’ll keep on file. If you are a new member (gold or platinum), you’ll get your membership card created.

• Can I reserve one of these sweet rooms without a membership?
  Yes, see the room rental link above. However if you reserve lots of time consider becoming a Platinum Members, who if they run enough games may qualify for a free membership.

• Can I cancel a gold or platinum membership anytime? Orcs took all my money.
  Sure. Memberships are billed on the initial date, monthly. Please let us know before that date. We are charged a number of fees by the processor and commerce site that we can’t get back once the charge happens, so no refunds.

• I had to leave because ______ after I bought a scroll of entry, or reserved a room can I get a refund?
  No. See above about fees. We’re generally lawfully aligned however, and if there are circumstances we’re happy to let you roll the entry forward.

• I actually charge players to run games, I’m that good at this stuff! Is that cool?
  Whatever you charge players is your business. If they are otherwise paying 5 Magics members (via a membership or scroll) then it’s none of our business. However, we can’t take or facilitate payments, nor will we be held responsible for a player wanting money back because you killed their PC or otherwise.

• Can I play an RPG at an open table in the sweet open gaming area?
  Absolutely! As long as that table isn’t reserved for some other function by a member. We have 3 brand new large low tables, 2 large high tables and a round table in the open gaming area. We’d love for you to host your games there. You can also play a board game, a card game or a miniatures game.

• Can I book a private room at an in between time?
  Just ask, if it isn’t otherwise booked pretty close to your start time and you want to start at a time other than our slots just email us.

• Can I rent the space for my wedding/corporate event/pagan ritual/birthday?
  Probably, just email us with your needs. We need a little advance notice however.

• The Library

• How do I use a book for my game?
  When scheduling your block of time you’ll be given a chance to let us know what books, minis or maps would be helpful. We’ll have them ready for you before you arrive. If you forget or need something during play we’re also happy to help. The inventory of things you’ve checked out will be recorded on a card (Use Library check notwithstanding), when you are done you’ll check it back in with the front desk.

• Can I take books and stuff home?
  No. The library is there for members to use at the club. Of course you can bring and use any of your own materials also.

• Oops I spilled / set on fire / ripped a thing.
  You are responsible within reason for replacing anything you or your guests destroy or damage so try to be careful. Remember these books belong to all members of the club.

• Can I just read stuff and drink coffee?
  Absolutely. We encourage it, and the library is a resource for dreaming up and exploring new games.

• Services

• Can you run a game for me?
  Maybe, but more likely we can find a GM who is also a member. 5 Magics staff will absolutely run games, both their own regular games and special events such as demos and one shots (see below).

• Do those things cost money?
  Maybe, depends on how much work, time and effort goes into it and on who the game master is.

• Can you print stuff for me?
  We have several stretch membership goals, those include a color laser printer and a 3d printer. For the time being we have a B&W laser printer that can be used within reason (character sheets, not whole modules).

• Where does my beer/wine/elixir of immortality go?
  If you have reserved the Shire or Elysium there are mini fridges in there for your beverages. Otherwise let the front desk know and we will store it in the club fridge.

• Can I just keep some beer there?
  If you are a member we’ll do our best.

• I found beer/soda/dracochinno in the club fridge, can I drink it?
  If it isn’t yours then no. Ask around, maybe you’ll make a friend and share a drink.

• I ordered some pizza is it here yet?
  We are happy to accept your food order and help you get it to your room to re-fuel.

• I have a bunch of food to throw away
  Let the front desk know and we’ll bring a large trash can around and help you clean up.
